My husband Mark was diagnosed as a coeliac a long time ago and I had become increasingly frustrated with the overwhelming reliance on the high street supermarkets with their limited product range and their over processed offerings.
As a catering manager, passionate cook and a believer in using locally sourced ingredients such as Wharfedale Cheeses, Church View eggs and all Yorkshire products I can find, I decided to create my own home baked, handcrafted gluten free products for my husband friends and family, who incidentally, cannot tell the difference. This created a lot of interest hence we decided to set up ‘Gluten Freekz’ gluten free home baking to Coeliacs, people with gluten intolerance and anyone else who wants to follow a gluten free diet.
Our business was created just over a year ago which has gone better than we could have ever expected!
We attend eight local Farmers Markets with our homemade produce and also run an online shop selling our whole product range and since we started we now offer nine of our goodies as ‘dairy free’ and everything is nut free! I also can adapt our recipes for people with other allergies so please do ask when you visit our stand. Our latest project is introducing a variety of new products ‘rustic ready meals’ including ‘Chicken Casserole and Dumplings’, ‘Vegetable Lasagne’ and ‘Beef Cobbler’. We have also started to make Celebration cakes to order.
Also for information, you can now sit down with a cup of tea at Christchurch Café in Ilkley and enjoy a slice of our ‘Lemon Drizzle Cake’, ‘Banana Cake’ or ‘Yorkshire Curd Tart’. Or maybe choose a piece of our traditional Savoury Tarts such as ‘Broccoli and Mushroom' and 'Goats Cheese and Tomato’.
Rest assured you can eat and enjoy gluten free produce from us as these are all made and handcrafted in my totally gluten free kitchen!
As a recently retired professional Catering Manager at a local independent school, managing a 5 star rated kitchen, I had been asked by many parents to produce gluten free products for family members etc, so I thought why not take it one step further and start to sell my traditional baked goods on line and at farmers markets for those wanting products that are gluten and wheat free without all the extra additives!
We freshly bake on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays. All our ingredients are in their natural state we just make, bake and craft our goodies in our gluten free kitchen!
We lovingly produce a range of delicious recipes. All our pastry products are made using our own secret recipe which I have been working on for a long time and I hope you agree that I have now perfected it, but as always, I am still looking at ways to improve all the produce and this will be ongoing.
